About us
St. Joseph’s Foundation (SJF) currently provides services for over 1,300 Children and 400 Adults in the North Cork and South Limerick areas. These services range from day services, residential, hydrotherapy pool sessions, equine therapy, home from home and services from our multi-disciplinary team. SJF is the largest employer in the Charleville area, and is involved in all areas of the community through our staff and service users.
At our Liskennett Equine therapy centre in Granagh Co. Limerick, we have 25 horses/ponies who provide equine therapy sessions to children and adults with autism and/or an intellectual disability. Despite the covid-19 restrictions in 2021, we provided over 10,000 sessions of equine therapy. Equine therapy is open to any child/adult with a diagnosis; they do not have to be attached to our foundation. This increases the demand for equine therapy sessions, but also allows us to help more people in our community and surrounding areas. Schools and groups attend Liskennett during the week from various places; Cork, Limerick, Clare, Tipperary, while our Saturday sessions are open to families from any area.
In spring 2023, we hope to start work on our new Regional Children's Residential, Alternative Respite and Equine Therapy Centre in Kanturk, Co. Cork. We are planning for the future and ensuring we will be in a position to continue to provide the services that are required. The support of the local community helps us to achieve this.
